Suzhou has been historically synonymous with high culture and class, and for years artists, scholars, and writers were drawn by its exquisite art forms and its gardens. Like all modern Chinese towns, Suzhou has had to contend with the recent destruction of its heritage and the arbitrary chunks of modern architecture. That said, the city still has enough pockets of charm. Suzhou’s main attraction are its gardens, a combination of rocks, water, trees and pavilions that display balance and harmony.
