Known simply as Corpus, the 'city by the bay' is a growing and energetic place. Its attractions warrant a visit and its perpetual sunny weather is beguiling.

Spanish explorers named the bay after the Catholic holy day of Corpus Christi in 1519, when Alonzo Álvarez de Piñeda encountered its calm waters. The town was established in the early 1800s and took the name on as well. Growth was slow at first, due to yellow fever and a hurricane in 1919. However, with the construction of Shoreline Blvd and the deepwater port, combined with the WWII boom, Corpus grew rapidly. Although the downtown is somewhat sleepy and away from the water, the city does well attracting large conventions and meetings with the vast American Bank Center.
