About Draper, Utah
Learn About This Location
Draper is a city in Utah, about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City. Draper is part of two metro areas - the Salt Lake County portion is part of the Salt Lake City metropolitan area, while the Utah County portionbelongs to the Provo-Orem metropolitan area.
In 1849, Ebenezer Brown brought cattle to graze along the South Willow Creek, and in the following spring he brought his family and sold his cattle. More settlers arrived during the next few years to the new settlement later named South Willow Creek. In 1854 the first post office was established and named Draperville after William Draper III, the first presiding elder of the settlement's Mormon congregation. The name shortened to Draper in following years.
Draper is home to the PGP Corporation's and Musician's Friend's call centers, the corporate headquarters of 1-800 Contacts, and Utah's first IKEA.
