Ireland's second largest city ranks first in every important aspect– at least according to the locals, who cheerfully defend it as the 'true capital of Ireland'. It's a liberal, youthful and lively city that was badly hit by economic recession but is now focusing its energy on reinventing itself with renovated streets, revitalised waterfront, and an artisan cafe at every corner, or so it seems. There's a burgeoning hipster scene, but most of the city is still contentedly traditional – cozy pubs with live-music, restaurants serving up top-quality local produce, and a genuinely proud welcome from local residents.
